Estate planning for families in Singapore

Three key documents protect you and everything you have: a will, a Lasting Power of Attorney and your nominations. Without them, your assets may be frozen while your family waits for a court order.

Your Family Estate Map

We draw up a Family Estate Map for every family at the first meeting. This is one we prepared recently, with the family’s names and figures hidden.

Prepared in October 2026 by Sumit Tiwari. This summary assumes the wife passes away first, with the documents in place today.

When her estate would reach the family

  • Once the bank has processed the death
  • Within weeks, through nominations or at the insurer’s discretion
  • After the court grant, usually six to nine months

Matters requiring early attention

1

No will in place

Wills for both of them

Without a will, the estate would be shared under the Intestate Succession Act, and the family would need to apply for letters of administration.

2

No Lasting Power of Attorney

Lasting Powers of Attorney for both of them

If either of them lost mental capacity, the family would need to apply to the court for a deputy, which usually takes several months.

How we work

We work with each family over three meetings.

  1. First meeting
    Zoom or Microsoft Teams

    Your Family Estate Map

We draw up your Family Estate Map. It shows who is in your family, what each person owns, what is already in place, and what would happen if you died or lost mental capacity. You keep the map after the meeting. This first meeting is free.

  2. Second meeting
    In person

    Issues on your map

We meet at our office or at your home so that your family can attend. We go through each issue on your map, such as a missing nomination or a will that no longer matches your wishes, and the options for each.

  3. Third meeting
    In person

    Your documents

Your will is prepared and signed through our partners or your own lawyer. Your LPA is certified by an accredited doctor, a practising lawyer or a registered psychiatrist, and then registered with the Office of the Public Guardian. We help you with each step.

  4. After the third meeting

    Plan reviews

We review your plan with you when your family or your assets change.

What our estate plans cover

A will, a Lasting Power of Attorney and your nominations are the starting point. Most plans also include an Advance Medical Directive and an Advance Care Plan. The times shown are estimates from the Government's Plan Your Legacy website.

About us

2021Advising families since 2021.
All walks of lifeWe have advised families from all walks of life, from those starting out to those at the very top.

Who we advise

Most of our clients are between 40 and 70. Many are senior professionals from different industries in Singapore.

Assets in several names

They often own more than one property or investment, held in different names and accounts.

Who should inherit

Some have a spouse and children who depend on them. Others are single or have no children, and have not yet decided who should inherit.

Documents made at different times

Their will, CPF nomination and insurance nominations were made at different times, and no one has checked that they agree.

We help them make a will, a Lasting Power of Attorney, an Advance Medical Directive, an Advance Care Plan and nominations that agree with one another.

Estate check

Ten questions on your will, nominations, Lasting Power of Attorney and property.

It takes about three minutes. Your answers are not sent to us unless you ask for a report at the end.

Questions

Is the first meeting free?

Yes. There is no charge and no obligation.

How does the first meeting take place?

On Zoom or Microsoft Teams. The second and third meetings are in person, at our office or at your home.

Will I be asked to buy anything?

We may recommend a will or a trust, but you are under no obligation to act on it. Our partners pay us only if you decide to go ahead through them.

I already have a will. Should I still meet you?

Often, yes. A will does not cover CPF savings, insurance policies with a nomination, or property held as joint tenants. We can check that each of these is arranged the way you want.
