Making a CPF nomination

CPF savings do not pass under your will. They go to the people you nominate, or to the Public Trustee's Office if you have not made a nomination.

Your will does not cover CPF

CPF savings are not distributed under your will. The only way to decide who receives them is to make a CPF nomination with the CPF Board.

What happens without a nomination

Your CPF savings go to the Public Trustee's Office, which distributes them under the intestacy rules. For Muslims, faraid (Islamic inheritance law) applies.

Your family also waits longer, and the Public Trustee's Office deducts a fee.

What a nomination does

You can name one or more people, family or not, and decide the share each person receives. The money is paid to them directly.

How to make a nomination

  1. Log in to the CPF website or app with your Singpass.
  2. Choose the nomination service and enter your nominees and their shares.
  3. Add two witnesses. Each must be at least 21 and cannot be a nominee. They confirm with their own Singpass.

Online nominations are free, and you can change yours at any time.

When to review it

Marriage cancels an existing nomination, so you will need to make a new one after you marry. You should also review it after a divorce, a birth or a death in the family.

Common mistakes

  • Assuming that a will covers CPF savings.
  • Nominating one person to share the money with others. That person has no legal duty to share it.
  • Not telling anyone that the nomination exists.
